International Programs

Partner University Exchange Program

Program

Choose from over 50 UM Partner Universities that UM has one-on-one agreements with.  Students pay tuition to UM and room and board in the host country.  At some sites (China, Czech Republic, Mexico, and Morocco) students pay tuition, room and board to UM.

Eligibility

Students must have at least a junior status at the time of exchange, although mature sophomores may be considered for acceptance.  A minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.

Language Considerations

UM Partner Exchange offers programs taught in English and other languages.  Click here for a list of programs taught in English in non-English speaking countries as well as programs taught in foreign languages.

Students wishing to study in a language other than English will usually need to have completed two years of college level language courses.  Check the specific university information for detailed language requirements.

Program Length

Programs can be for a semester or academic year.

Program Cost

Students pay UM in-state, out-of-state, or WUE tuition and fees depending on residency status. 

Room and board costs will vary depending on study site.  Check the specific university information for detailed living costs.

Financial Aid and Scholarship

Most UM scholarships and student loans may be applied to this program.  Work-study funding cannot be applied. Consult the Financial Aid Office and awarding departments for details. See information on study abroad scholarships.

Partner University Study Abroad

Program

Some Partner Universities offer the Study Abroad option where students pay their tuition and fees to the foreign institution rather than UM.  This option can be attractive to out-of-state UM students.  The following institutions offer this option: Charles Sturt, Cork, Griffith, Massey, Victoria, Waikato.

Consult the Financial Aid Office, Enrollment Services and awarding departments for details. ISEP Exchange Program

Program

Choose from over 130 ISEP study sites through the International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP) network.  Students pay tuition, room and board to UM.

Eligibility

Students must have at least a sophomore status at the time of exchange. (Certain sites are recommended for sophomores.)  A minimum GPA of 2.75 is required.  Some sites require a higher GPA.

Language Considerations

ISEP offers programs taught in English and other languages.  Please visit the ISEP website for a list of programs taught in English in non-English speaking countries.

Students wishing to study in a language other than English will need to consult the language requirements for programs taught in French, German, or Spanish.

Program Length

Programs can be for an academic year, a semester, or a summer.

Program Cost

Students pay their tuition, housing and meals to UM; this does not include airfare, passport, ISEP health insurance, visa, or other personal expenses.

For In-State Montana residents (2012-2013 amounts):

  • One semester: $7,532
  • Academic year: $14,974

For Out-of-State Non-residents (2012-2013 amounts):

  • One semester: $15,577
  • Academic year: $31,064

For WUE (2011-2012 amounts):

  • One semester: $8,438
  • Academic year: $16786
