While Abroad for ISEP

Now that I've arrived at my host institution, what's next?

Elizabeth Lathrop, UM study abroad student, in Turin, Italy.

Once your program dates start, login to your online study abroad account to do the following:

  1. Update your while abroad contact information.

  2. Complete your Arrival Notification and Acknowledgement that you have arrived safely

  3. Upon enrolling in classes, submit Part I of your Host Institution Enrollment Form to OIP.

What do I need to be aware of while I'm abroad?

  • Review the UM Study Abroad Student Handbook especially to learn how to cope with cultural adjustment, how to stay healthy and safe, and what the U.S. Consulate can do for you if you encounter legal issues.

  • Contact your UM academic advisor for your advising number and register for your next semester's classes via Cyberbear. OIP will send you an email reminder.

  • In the event of a political, social, or natural emergency, OIP will be in close contact with your host institution staff and the US Consulate or Embassy. The host institution staff will seek advice from the local authorities in your host country. Remain in contact with the host institution staff and OIP in an emergency situation.

How can I prepare to return home?

  • Heidi Kunkel, UM study abroad student, in Viña del Mar, Chile

Keep copies of your course descriptions, syllabi, homework, papers, and any other records which may aid in the evaluation of your credits upon return to UM.
  • Order transcripts to be sent to IP and/or your home address.  It is a good idea to order extra copies of transcripts for your records.

  • Complete the Part II of your Host Institution Enrollment Form.
