Hungary

The Hungarian Parliamentary Professional Development Program is a short-term winter English language and professional immersion program sponsored by International Programs at The University of Montana in Missoula. A delegation of seven Members of Parliament from Hungary will spend three weeks in Montana, January 3-24 2007, studying English and American culture through professional content. They will spend mornings immersed in classroom-based English language classes with professional ESL instructors and community guest speakers, and afternoons in individualized job shadow placements based on their different areas of professional expertise. Evenings and weekends will be spent taking advantage of cultural events and recreational outings. The goals of the program consist of the following: 1) to improve professional communication skills in English; 2) to observe and interact with American professionals at work through a job shadow experience; 3) to meet with local and state government leaders to learn about various aspects of American government in action; and 4) to network with local non-profit business representatives and scholars in order to understand and share ideas related to various global issues facing the world today.
