Campus units (department or equivalent) may sponsor wireless access to the campus network for designated campus visitors. Requests can be made for individuals or for groups (e.g. conferences or other large meetings varying in time length).
- A "Sponsored Visitor Wireless Access Request Form" must be completed by a sponsor to request visiting user access. These requests must be made three (3) days in advance of the desired start date to accommodate processing time.
- The sponsor will be notified of the visitor's wireless user name and password via e-mail.
- The visitor must install the "virtual private network" (VPN) software on their computer(s) which ensures that all communication between the user's wireless device and the wireless access point (WAP) are encrypted, and thus safe from being intercepted by other users. VPN software can be downloaded or picked up by visiting IT Central, Social Science 126.
Please request the visitor to look for UM wireless signs which indicate areas of access. For questions about sponsored visitor wireless access at UM, please contact the IT office in Social Science 126, (406) 243-5350.
