Three campus-wide software programs (Microsoft, Apple, Symantec) related to desktop computers are consolidated at The University of Montana. Under this consolidation, software that campus departments had been purchasing directly from vendors using unit funds is now available for free (mostly) through central distribution. This consolidation was made possible through increased central funding plus specific annual commitments from Academic Affairs (faculty computer funds), the Student Computer Fee, and Student Affairs. In addition, the University has an agreement with Adobe through The Bookstore for purchasing Adobe products.
Upgrades to the latest Macintosh OS X (currently 10.5) for University-owned Macintosh computers are available. However, it is not available to students and there is no Work-at-Home coverage.
For Windows/PCs and Macs, Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition (version 10) including access to Symantec's frequent virus definition updates for both campus and home use.
Microsoft, Apple/Macintosh, and Symantec: IT is working with various unit-based IT administrators to facilitate the distribution of Microsoft, Apple, and Symantec software to the computers within these departments. Contact your department's IT administrator to find out what your unit is doing. Microsoft OS and Office (PC and Macintosh)
University employees may obtain Windows XP Professional with SP2 Upgrade, Windows Vista Business Upgrade, and Office 2003 Enterprise (PC and Macintosh) for their home computers from The Bookstore by purchasing the Work-At-Home license media. Please note that the on-campus media may not be installed on home computers. Specific departments may have other Microsoft software available to them. A Student component for MS Office, Office Pro Plus 2007, is available from the Bookstore. Contact The Bookstore Computer Sales Department at 243-1234, ext. 653, for pricing and further information.
A valid University Griz Card must be presented when purchasing Microsoft Work-At-Home software.
