IT Central Support & Services Password expirations Passwords expire for security reasons. Different systems on campus have different expirations. Following is password expiration information for IT-supported UM administrative program logins. Net-ID-Accessed Services (Blackboard, Business Services Procard reports, GrizMail, IT lab logins, Library remote resources, VPN, wireless). NetID passwords expire every 365 days. Users may change their NetID password, setup a security question and answer, and reset their passwords online at OneStop. The password reset feature is available only after the security question and answer have been established. The only password constraint is that it must be at least six characters in length. If a NetID password expires before a user has established a security question/answer, he/she must go to IT Central with a photo ID for identification purposes and a consultant will initiate the password reset process. MSO e-mail Accounts and UM Domain Accounts MSO e-mail account passwords and UM Domain account passwords are associated and utilize the same password. This password expires every 365 days. On a Windows machine connected to our network, users may change their password themselves by using ctrl-alt-del and clicking on change password. Alternatively, the password may be changed in messaging.umt.edu under the options tab. The only password constraint is that it must be at least six characters in length. If a password expires, a user must go to IT Central with a photo ID for identification purposes and a consultant will initiate the password reset process. Mail1 E-mail Accounts Current UM faculty and staff members with Mail1 e-mail accounts access these accounts using the NetID (e.g. ab123456e) and password. Mail1 e-mail account passwords expire every 180 days. Users may change their passwords online. Passwords must be a minimum of six characters. There are no additional password constraints. NOTE: Currently, mail1 does not synchronize with other NetID-accessible campus services and are maintained separately. If a mail1 password expires, a user must go to IT Central with a photo ID for identification purposes and a consultant will initiate the password reset process, which may take up to four business hours to complete.
