Scantron

Test Scoring Software

IT makes available to UM instructors a Scantron grading machine with ParScore scoring software. This combination can be used to grade exams where answers are recorded on Scantron forms. Scantron forms are available at the UM Bookstore and the UC Market. Please note that the green NCS forms that are clearly marked Psychology will NOT work with the IT Scantron machine

Requesting a roster

Prior to using the Scantron, please contact the lab manager at ITLabRequest@umontana.edu or 243-2187 to request the course roster be uploaded to the Scantron work station. Please allow 2 business days to complete these tasks.

Please provide the following information:

  • the name of the instructor (first and last)
  • instructor’s telephone number
  • the class name (Introduction to Astronomy)
  • class number and section number, (AST 101 Sec 3)
  • CRN number (77345)
  • the date the roster will be needed
  • whether you require ParScore training

Training

If you have not had ParScore training, please be sure to let the lab manager know and training will be provided during your first scheduled Scantron appointment. A training manual is available in the lab and Lab Monitors will be available to assist you with questions or problems that may arise.

Reserving

To schedule a time to use the Scantron machine please call the LA Lab Monitor’s office at 243-2736. The Scantron machine may be schedule for up to 1.5 hours at a time. Reservations will be cancelled at 15 minutes past the reserved time and the machine will be opened up for walk-in traffic.

ParScore Software

Once the grading key and answers have been scanned, a number of scoring reports are available including an Item Analysis. The class roster complete with scores can be extracted to an Excel file and copied to a disk. ParScore also allows you to modify the Answer Key, at any point in time, and rescore all exams with a click of a button.
