Adobe CC FAQ

Adobe Creative Cloud is the latest version of Adobe’s suite of products for graphic and web design. The version of Creative Cloud available through University of Montana’s Adobe Creative Cloud ETLA (Enterprise Term License Agreement) is not the same as the commercial version.

The name 'Creative Cloud' does not mean products are stored in the 'cloud.' As with previous versions of Adobe software, you will download the software to your computer. Once downloaded, you do not need an active Internet connection to use the products in the Creative Cloud suite. Products do not run in a Web browser.

If you only need Adobe Acrobat Pro, we recommend that you contact Jay Michalik at the UM Bookstore for assistance. There are several Adobe applications that can be purchased separately. If you only need one application, it is more cost effective to proceed in this manner.

Adobe has confirmed that you should be able to get out of your existing contract*.  You can chat with Adobe at: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cancel-membershipsubscription.html.

You will need to let them know that you were told that any school that signs an 'ETLA' agreement, is eligible for this early termination without penalty. Note that you will not be able to get any type of refund.

* Please note: UM purchased device licenses only. If you were to decide to take this path, if you are currently licensed on a named user basis (which includes services), opting out will remove your services.

The Creative Cloud website is designed to work optimally in the latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. The Creative Cloud website should be functional with older browsers, although you may have trouble using certain features on older versions. Internet Explorer 8 and earlier are not supported.

Creative Cloud membership provides access to all creative desktop apps for download and installation on your local computer, as well as additional apps and online services. Desktop applications included with the campus agreement are available in both Mac OS and Windows versions.

Creative Cloud desktop App:

  • Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10
  • Mac OS X v10.7, v10.8, 10.9, or v10.10
  • Internet connection required

For a complete list of product requirements see: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/system-requirements.html

In short, no.  The Adobe files are too large, and are not intended to be used on tablets/smartphones. Please refer to the minimum system requirements.

While there are free mobile apps designed to integrate with the full versions of cc installed on desktop and laptops, to make that work, individuals need to be licensed for the services.  The only tablet that can claim to run the desktop versions is the surface pro, but for the most part, tablets do not have the resources to run the full versions of the apps.

You can download just the applications you need and then return at a later date to download the other applications (if needed).

No, you run the software from your local computer.

12.5 GB

You have to download the software onto your PC/Mac.

No. You can store the files in any location you choose.

Yes, the campus agreement covers all upgrades that are released during the term of the agreement.

You will always have access to your files after you leave the University of Montana. If you want to edit or change your files, you will need to purchase a Creative Cloud Personal Subscription from Adobe.

There is no additional cost for downloading further eligible applications provided you are still employed at the University and the University has maintained its Campus Agreement.

Work at Home licenses/software are purchased and downloaded from UM's Software Web Store.

Yes, if an employee already has a CC personal subscription (year long) and wants to replace it with the WAH subscription:

  • Purchase the WAH subscription and get it attached to your Adobe account
  • Call Adobe Support and have them cancel the current personal subscription
Adobe will only do this for free after you have already added another subscription to your account. They will penalize you if you try and cancel the expensive subscription before purchasing the WAH.
You can install Adobe CC WAH by following the steps in our installation guide.

Work At Home licenses allow a user to run CC on two devices. However, you may not run more than one instance of the software at a time.
