What is a NetID?
The NetID allows campus users to connect to many UM systems and applications with the same login and password.
The NetID format is two letters (first initial, last initial) and six numbers (e.g. "ab123456"). An “e” on the end indicates that it is an employee (e.g. "ab123456e") NetID. The initial password is the last six digits of the University ID (the 790 number).
Access to the following primary systems is available by using the NetID and password:
- UMConnect (students only)
- Remote library resources
- UM Online Moodle
- IT computer labs
NetID access is also available for other UM services including but not limited to: ITunesU, Academic Planner, MyLabsPlus, Cascade content management system, and IT short courses. Questions about NetID authentication may be directed to IT Central at 406-243-HELP.

The NetID may also be obtained at login.umt.edu by clicking on "What is my NetID?"
NetID Activation & Deactivation
University services accessed via the NetID and password are offered to all current employees and also to students once they apply to The University of Montana. The NetID and password are activated/deactivated for each group as follows:
Current University of Montana employees may access university services via their NetID as long as their employment status is active in the Banner system. Deactivation occurs once a termination date is entered into the Banner system. University retirees have lifetime access to their University email account and address (does not include other NetID-accessible services). If they do not have an existing MSO or departmental email account, upon retiring they will need to complete and submit to IT Central a Individual Computer Account Request Form so that an MSO email account can be created for them.
UMConnect accounts and other University services accessed via the NetID are provided to students once they apply to UM. These accounts are available while a student is currently enrolled at UM.
