OWA email filter

Configuring Your Junk Email Filter in Outlook Web Access (OWA) - Disable or Enable Filtering

Microsoft OWA offers features to help you address junk email that arrives to your Inbox. Junk email filtering is enabled for all OWA users by default. Make sure you check your junk email folder frequently as there are times when legitimate email arrives in your Junk Email folder.

To access Junk Email options, from your OWA tool bar, Click on the Options button. Scroll down to Privacy and Junk Email Prevention. By clicking in the checkbox next to Filter Junk Email you can enable or disable junk email filtering.

Note: After making any changes in the Options area of OWA, you must save the changes by clicking on the Save and Close button at the top of the window, or your changes will not take effect.

Adding Senders to Your Safe Senders List, Safe Recipients List, and Your Blocked Senders List

To add senders to lists, from your OWA tool bar, Click on the Options tab. Scroll down to Privacy and Junk Email Prevention. Click Manage Junk Email Lists. Click on the View or Modify list drop down arrow to select your Safe Senders, Safe Recipients, and Blocked Senders Lists.

Manage junk email lists

Safe Senders list: Email addresses and domain names that you add to your Safe Senders List are never treated as junk email, so will not be moved to your Junk Email folder. Email addresses stored in your Contacts or in the campus Global Address list are included by default, and will never be treated as junk email messages.

Safe Recipients list: As with the Safe Senders list, email addresses and domain names that you add to your Safe Recipients list are not treated as junk mail, and will never be moved to your Junk email folder.

Blocked Senders list: This list is used to block messages by address or domain. Messages originating from an address or a domain on the list are filtered out. Entering a domain in the Blocked Senders list blocks all messages from that domain, regardless of the sender.

Tip: To quickly add a sender to one of your lists, right click on a message from the sender, and click Add Sender to Safe Senders List or Add Sender to Blocked Senders List.
