Eduroam wireless access support

What is eduroam?

Eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. Eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions using their home institutions credentials. Visit the eduroam site at: https://www.eduroam.us/ for more information.

Why use eduroam?

Eduroam facilitates travelers from academic institutions by allowing them to gain network access with minimal configuration and no need for the visited institution to grant them the access explicitly. This benefits visiting faculty traveling for conferences and collaborative work, study abroad students, visitors attending NCAA activities, and even regional academic exchanges.

Using a secured wireless network is recommended any time you will be accessing a site where you use a password and/or submit a credit card or other personal or financial information.

Access eduroam with your home University credentials regardless of which campus you are on. When a user logs in, the authentication request will go to the home institution, the home institution will verify the user, and then pass back a confirmation that the user is legitimate. Passwords are not shared between institutions.

Where can it be used?

Access to eduroam wireless is offered at any eduroam enabled campus. You may view a list of eduroam institutions at:  https://www.eduroam.us/eduroam_us_institutions

At the University of Montana eduroam is available at all locations covered by the UM wireless network. When connecting, eduroam should appear as a wireless network option on your device. Connecting to UMwpa or GrizzlyGuest will not connect you to eduroam.

Who manages credentials?

Assistance with passwords, configurations and certificates come from the user’s institutional support staff. Please configure eduroam on your device prior to visiting another eduroam institution.
