Visitor access

UM provides limited wireless network access for individuals and groups visiting campus for University-sponsored activities.

Wireless for individual visitors

Individual visitors must be sponsored by an official UM department. The sponsoring department should complete a a Sponsored Visitor Wireless Access Request Form at least two weeks in advance of the desired start date. The sponsor will be notified of the visitor's wireless user name and password via e-mail.

Two options are available for connecting to the University's wireless network.

  • WPA2 Enterprise, used for more advanced authentication schemes, is available internally on newer laptops and other devices and does not require a software download. Configuration Instructions

  • The visitor may install "virtual private network" (VPN) software on their computer(s) which ensures that all communication between the user's wireless device and the wireless access point (WAP) are encrypted, and thus safe from being intercepted by other users. Download VPN software.
