Provide undergraduate and graduate studio instruction in classical/jazz saxophone.
Perform as soloist and as a collaborative musician.
Recruit students and develop the saxophone and jazz area curriculum.
Direct the UM Jazz Combo Program.
Responsibilities may include additional coursework and responsibilities based upon qualifications of the candidate and departmental needs, such as, jazz arranging, jazz improvisation and jazz pedagogy.

Doctorate, or master's degree with equivalent outstanding professional experience required.
Demonstrated evidence of excellence and experience as a teacher at the collegiate level; experience in applied saxophone, both classical and jazz.
Strength and experience as a soloist and collaborative performer in classical and jazz saxophone.
Experience/ability/leadership in the areas of recruitment and outreach.

The Department: The University of Montana is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music and offers bachelor's and master's degrees in performance, music education, composition and music technology. The Department of Music has 21 full-time faculty members and more than 300 music majors. The Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival: The University of Montana has sponsored a non-competitive jazz festival since 1981. In 2000 the festival began its collaboration with Buddy DeFranco and was renamed in his honor. Now in its ninth year, it runs for two days featuring world-class artists on evening concerts with clinics and school jazz band performances during the day. Renowned college jazz educators are brought in to adjudicate and work with the bands.
