As Head, Bibliographic Management Services Division at The University of Montana, Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library, you would join the library faculty as a tenure track Associate Professor; report to the Dean of University Libraries; serve as a member of the library’s senior management group; and work closely with other division heads as well as the Dean to facilitate effective communication and positive working relationships library wide.

The Bibliographic Management Services Division consists of a staff of two faculty, 14 classified staff and 1.7 FTE in student workers.

As the head of the division, you would serve as a catalyst for strategic development of bibliographic support in a digital environment; develop and direct creative new services;

Provide leadership for department staff for the acquisition and cataloging of all formats and for expertise in the use of metadata for the library’s growing digitization projects.

Lead the development and application of policy, workflow, project management and resource allocation;

Play a key role in the acquisition fund management (about $3.7M);

Participate in the Collection Development committee to provide budget reports;

Provide leadership in the acquisition and implementation of collection management technologies;

Implement methods of collection management that will provide data for purchasing decisions;

Provide energetic, insightful leadership for planning and project initiation/management;

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in library science from an accredited ALA graduate program or equivalent professional degree;

Five years of relevant, progressively responsible, professional experience in an academic or research library;

Project management experience and extensive experience in the use of automated systems;

Experience in the processes, technologies and budgeting for acquisitions;

Demonstrated management, supervisory and leadership skills;

Ability to create and manage organizational change; evidence of ability to interact collaboratively; ability to communicate clearly and knowledgeably orally and in writing; and a solid technology background.
