The Facilities Assistant provides direct customer service to members of the campus and to the community via upkeep and maintenance of The University of Montana campus buildings and facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to: performing beginning to intermediate, routine custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, trash removal, and sanitizing; performing general maintenance such as changing light bulbs as well as supplying paper products and soap
Position will demonstrate: knowledge of or the ability to learn and apply custodial methods and up-to-date cleaning equipment and techniques used for scrubbing, disinfecting, mopping, dusting, polishing and other related tasks; proper and safe operation of related equipment (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, shampooers, high-pressure cleaners and extractors); ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a safe work environment; effective interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills, including ability to work with a diverse population; knowledge of departmental and The University of Montana policies and procedures; basic physical layout of campus buildings; demonstrated ability to follow written instructions; demonstrated initiative to perform duties independently and as a team member

High school graduation and one (1) year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to perform constant physical activity: Lifting: floor to 30 inches, up to 50#; ground to 60 inches, up to 35#. Ground to overhead, up to 5# sustained, with both hands; Carrying: 2 handed front carry up to 35# for 50 feet; Pushing & pulling forces required (during the use of cleaning equipment, handling janitor’s cart & dolly): 25# sustained. Pushing & pulling forces required (handling, pushing & pulling classroom & office furniture & equipment): 30# sustained at waist level; Static trunk forward bending & twisting from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools; Reaching with your arms in all directions, including overhead with 5# in both hands, sustained; Working overhead from various positions (standing, squatting, & kneeling); Balancing when climbing & working on a ladder; Use of various hand grip circumferences & firm hand grip positions while manipulating various tools & equipment (maximum 50#). A Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment.
