Entry Rate: $10.784/hr, May be hired as a Facilities Assistant, at $10.32/hr, depending on experience

Primary Functions

  • Position performs intermediate to advanced custodial duties for the entire Lommasson Center facility, including specialty cleaning as it pertains to the work unit or area and seasonal cleaning work. Duties include, but not limited to: emptying and cleaning trash receptacles, cleaning hard floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, stripping and refinishing resilient floors, making minor repairs of custodial and food service equipment, cleaning walls, floor drains, grease hoods, ductwork, air handling system, walk-in coolers, freezer, electric grills/fryers/pizza ovens, washing tables and chairs, cleaning and sanitizing lavatories, cleaning entries, halls and offices; adjusting, arranging, and setting up dining rooms or conference rooms for special events as requested; ensuring that all areas are maintained in a manner that leaves them safe, clean, sanitary and attractive; ensuring sanitation and safety regulations are followed at all times; supervising and planning work assignments of support staff as assigned or in absence of Custodial Supervisor; assisting supervisor with training and development of new employees and maintaining proper inventory of supplies; contributing to success of UDS as a member of Lommasson Center dining services team

  • Position will demonstrate: knowledge of custodial techniques, supplies and equipment used for scrubbing, disinfecting, mopping, dusting, polishing and related tasks; demonstrated skill in operating cleaning equipment including buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, shampooers, high-pressure cleaners and extractors with the ability to learn new equipment; working knowledge of Hazard Communication requirements and protocol; demonstrated organizational and time management skills; demonstrated interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills, including ability to work with diverse population and build and maintain effective working relationships; ability to accurately follow written or verbal instructions; knowledge of or ability to learn supervisory practices and procedures; ability to assist in training and setting of work assignments of support staff; ability to guide the work of others; ability to assist in maintaining supply inventory and learn ordering procedures; knowledge of or ability to learn and apply The University of Montana and UDS policies and procedures; ability to work independently, as well as in a team, while maintaining a positive attitude at all times
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High School graduation or equivalent and two (2) year of related full-time work experience, or a combination of experience and education
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of custodial techniques, supplies and equipment used for scrubbing, disinfecting, mopping, dusting, polishing and related tasks
  • Demonstrated skill in operating cleaning equipment with the ability to learn new equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Hazard Communication requirements and protocol
  • Ability to accurately follow written or verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of training and supervisory practices and procedures
  • Experience in maintaining supply inventory and performing ordering procedures
  • Must be able to obtain ServSafe Certification within one year of employment
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a Montana Driver’s License
  • Must be able to work an irregular work schedule

  • Must be able to perform constant physical activity: move equipment/materials weighing up to 50# on a regular basis; perform push/pull activity; ability to climb ladders and stairs; perform duties with repetitive motion of wrists, arm, and shoulder; ability to work with chemicals, cleaning equipment, dust, fumes, and odors; and perform duties in varying temperature (hot, cold) environments. A Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment.
