Entry Rate: $13.889/hr. - $15.278/hr.

Primary Functions

  • Position supervises, trains, and assists culinary staff in all areas of UDS in the development of desserts and pastries; assists and participates in preparation, production, and presentation of desserts and pastries for University Catering and Bear Claw Bakery (high-volume operations)
  • Responsible recipe selection, menu engineering, purchasing, product pricing, portion controls, inventory, and production techniques; assists in the creation, testing, and auditing recipes for desserts and pastries
  • Develops and presents a variety of demonstrations and workshops on desserts, pastries, and cakes to the UDS staff and UM campus community
  • Creates and maintains a safe and sanitary work environment by ensuring that all sanitation, food handling and safety regulations are followed
  • Serves as an active member of the UDS Culinary and Management Teams
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation and three (3) years of progressively responsible related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of desserts and pastry development, production, and presentation; knowledge of high-volume retail and catering bakery applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standardized rules and procedures for all food preparation, food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Effective public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills, including ability to work with diverse groups of individuals and establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn The University of Montana policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and conduct food presentations
  • Knowledge and experience in the practices, methods and techniques of food service management; recipe selection, menu engineering, purchasing practices and procedures, product pricing strategies, portion controls, and inventory and storage controls
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills and ability to complete tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain field trend currency
  • Skill in use of personal computers and related word processing and spreadsheet software with ability to learn related specialized software
  • Must be able to attain ServSafe certification within one year of employment; must be able to work an irregular work schedule
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a Montana Driver’s License
