Primary Functions

  • Position is responsible for providing high-level development and maintenance support for CE websites, databases, Blackboard for UMOnline and Elluminate. Duties include but are not limited to: serving as an informational and service contact for Extended Learning Services (XLS) with a focus on UM Online; producing training and performance support materials for users (faculty and students) for all systems used by CE (Blackboard, Elluminate, and Maven); assisting with course shell creation and management; collaborates with IT staff members from the UM community; conducting training sessions as needed; assisting with assessing effectiveness of Learning Management System (LMS); developing and maintaining related databases; gathering data and providing reports as needed; participating on operating committees

  • Performs technology management for UMOnline to include but not limiting to: assessing changing technology needs; assisting in implementation of LMS functions and designs settings; monitoring and troubleshooting online course delivery; managing databases and secure web-based databases for internal data tracking; investigating Blackboard building-block technology and implements; assisting in installing publisher content and course cartridges

  • Position will demonstrate experience in supporting instructional technology and web-based course delivery technologies (Blackboard CMS); ability to prepare, compile, and disseminate written and online documentation; experience with operating systems, file structures, formants and protocols; ability to develop expertise in other course management systems and other instructional technologies such as Elluminate; experience with web development tools, web graphics, media technologies, HTML and digitizing content; effective written and oral communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population; ability to function well within a team environment; ability to maintain field currency and research technical trends; demonstrates organizational, multi-tasking, time management, and problem-solving skills; ability to conduct training sessions and share complex information with others; ability to maintain and troubleshoot hardware and software issues and provide effective solutions; skill in the operation of personal computers and related word processing, spreadsheet and database software with the ability to learn new software: database design and development experience; ability to work evenings and weekends on an occasional basis; ability to travel locally as needed

  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation and three (3) years of related computer experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in web development tools, web graphic tools, media technologies, HTML, digitizing content and server administration.
  • Demonstrated experience with system administration of web-based course management systems; supporting instructional technologies
  • Demonstrated experience with networking hardware, software and system administration software, tools and procedures
  • Knowledge of various operating systems, file structures, formats and protocols
  • Effective interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills, including ability to create and maintain positive relationships
  • Ability to share complex information with others; plan and execute training sessions
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers and related word processing, spreadsheet and database software
  • Demonstrated database design and development experience
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends on an occasional basis; must be able to travel locally as needed
