Primary Functions

  • Position provides budget analysis, planning, and preparation for all budgets across the IT organization which include designated and state accounts and Student Computer Fee, grant, equipment fee, and plant funds; evaluates budgetary needs and devises plans; suggests and implements changes
  • Manages designated, state, grant, and plant fund budgets; maintains balance spreadsheet; tracks budgeted revenue/expenditures/savings; prepares related reports and information for fiscal year end; assess process needs and suggests process revisions, implements changes as needed
  • Prepares telephone services revenue projections and budgets; processes payments and re-bills UM departments; manages and facilitates capital purchasing and contract negotiations with vendors; facilitates multi-campus cost share for IT Utilities purchases for MUS campuses
  • Monitors, tracks, and reconciles charges made using the department purchasing card (ProCard); supervises student support staff
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High School graduation and three (3) years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in professional budget management practices and procedures and accounting principles
  • Demonstrated ability to assist others in preparing project budgets for a variety of funding agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret details of a myriad of project regulations and communicate these regulations to others in a manner they can understand
  • Demonstrated ability to understand contract language, write, review, and negotiate subcontracts
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and revise budgets, and to implement policies
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn The University of Montana and Montana University System policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated written communication skills, grammar and composition including the ability to proofread and edit
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers and related word processing, spreadsheet and database software (MS Word, Excel) with the ability to learn other software
  • Effective public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others (department managers, deans, faculty, staff, vendors, and sponsoring grant officers and administrators)
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and maintain a professional, personable demeanor
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment with attention to detail
