Ray Fanning joined the School of Journalism’s Radio-Television Department in 2007, after teaching broadcast journalism courses at Columbia College Chicago.

Before he started teaching, Fanning spent more than 17 years working in local television news at KBMY in Bismarck, KTVB in Boise, KUTV in Salt Lake City and KGW in Portland.

He has served as a reporter, line producer, executive producer and special projects manager.

Fanning’s news specials and documentaries have won awards from the Oregon Associated Press. He earned regional Emmy nominations for live coverage of the 2002 Olympic torch run in Portland and for a special on a climbing accident and helicopter crash on Mount Hood.

He covered the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, for CBS.  And he worked as a producer for NBC at the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City and the 2004 Summer Games in Athens.

Fanning is a native of Idaho and holds an M.S.J. degree in broadcast journalism from The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
