'The Pensioner' turns

Faculty surprises McGiffert with party, eponymous award

Generations of J-School alums remember Professor Bob McGiffert throwing himself on the floor to demonstrate the difference between lie and lay, along with his robust renditions of "Lucky Lindbergh." They remember, too, his fierce devotion to the First Amendment and to precise editing. Now, as he turns 80 (really!), McGiffert will be remembered by more generations of journalism students through an award established by the faculty in his name.

Alum's award
is J-School's gain

When Gary Moseman won a $1,000 award for editorial writing, he never even thought about hanging on to the money. Instead, the Great Falls Tribune managing editor turned it over to his alma mater, the University of Montana School of Journalism, to help students interested in environmental reporting.

Eclectic KBGA has it all
