Assignment in Prague:
Minorities in Montana, the Czech Republic
A student competition for an all-expenses-paid, once-in-a-lifetime experience May 21 to July, 2007, including three weeks in the Czech Republic
In this groundbreaking international pilot project, three print and two photojournalism students from the University of Montana will team up with a similar group of Czech students from Charles University to do stories about minority issues in the Czech Republic and Montana.
After a week’s orientation on the students’ home campuses, the UM journalists will join their Czech counterparts in Prague for three weeks to do stories about the Romany minority. Then the Czechs will join the UM students in Missoula to do stories about Montana’s primary minority, American Indians, during the final three weeks. The stories will be published, and students will receive two hours credit for summer term.
If you’re a junior, senior or a graduate student in journalism, and would like to compete for a place on the UM team, see Rebecca Schiel in the Dean’s Office for details and application materials.
Final deadline for submitting application:
5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 9, 2007
