Broadcast Journalism Senior Holly Baker will head off to Helena this spring to work for the J-School’s Legislative News Service. Her main duties will involve covering the 2009 legislative session, providing daily stories about which bills pass and which fail, and how the legislature’s business affects Montanans.
Baker said she is excited for the opportunity to work in a professional setting.
“People will be depending on the content I create to know what’s going on, and I think that’s really cool,” Baker said.
She will receive a stipend for housing, along with 12 credits to split between her Radio-Television major and her Political Science minor.
Baker’s legislative gig will follow her internship in Los Angeles, during which she worked on “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” Baker said she wanted to broaden her horizons and get out of Montana. Living in L.A. was definitely out of her comfort zone, Baker said. “I actually didn’t die.”
Baker said she learned how to deal with people in a high stress environment and how to communicate with others to complete tasks on the same day they’re assigned.
“I think you have to be a little bit crazy to work in anything with TV or news,” she said.
