Over the last year, Radio-Television Production student Caitlin Mallory has been a very busy student. During her junior year, Mallory took a job at KECI in Missoula as the graphics and video operator. After four months of waking up at 3:30 AM every day to make sure all the graphics and videos ran correctly on the morning news, Mallory was promoted to morning show director. Now waking up early meant a whole new level of busy-ness.
“I got through the days by taking naps,” Mallory said. On some days, Mallory would have to work at KECI, go to school, and work Griz Vision at basketball games until nine at night. Mallory directed KECI morning news through the past spring semester and all summer.
“If anything was sacrificed it was sleep and going out on weekends,” she said.
Currently Mallory does not direct during the school week. She went back to her old graphics and video job a couple days during the week, and directs shows on the weekends. “I’m not nearly as bitchy as I used to be,” she said.
Mallory said she is the type of person who gets stressed out easily, so she took her job day by day to minimize thinking about upcoming stressors. “I loved my morning show so much,” Mallory said, “I liked the crew and the atmosphere so I stayed for that, and so that I could get a better job straight out of college.”
