Michelle Gomes has resided in Western Montana for 10 years and although she was not born here, she considers the state her home. She attended both middle and high school in Corvallis, Mont., where she captured the beauty of the Bitterroot Mountains and Bitterroot River with her camera and took care of the many animals at her rural home including chickens, pigs, cats and dogs.
Photography has always been a hobby, but she never considered it a potential career. However, after numerous major changes ranging from elementary education to nursing and back again to education, Michelle transferred from Flathead Valley Community College to the University of Montana’s photojournalism program to pursue her true passion. Her major has stayed unchanged, a shock to close friends and family.
Michelle is graduating this May with no set plans. Although she will be sad to finish her college education, the learning process will never cease. She plans to stay in Montana to engage in the activities she loves: hiking, visiting ghost towns, camping, playing with her animals and cooking. She also has a few documentary photo projects she plans to pursue in the future.
