Swibold continues reading schedule

Journalism professor Dennis Swibold will read from his recently published book on Feb. 3 at the UC Bookstore on campus. The reading is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 12:30.

"Copper Chorus: Mining, Politics, and the Montana Press, 1889 - 1959" was published in September. Since then, Swibold has done nine reading/signing events around the state, with more planned through the summer.

The book examines the Anaconda Copper Mining Co.’s control of most of the state’s larger newspapers and the effects of that control on what those papers printed

Future readings include the following:
• Missoula's Sunrise Rotary Club, Feb. 7, 7:15 a.m.
at the Missoula Holiday Inn Parkside.

• Missoula Kiwanis, noon, April 24, at the old Florence Hotel, Missoula.

Swibold will also do presentations for the state Librarians Association in April, for the Butte Irish Festival in August, and for the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman next fall. Dates have not been set for those events. Also in the works are readings at Butte's W.A. Clark Mansion and the Carbon County (Red Lodge) Historical Society.
