James Laber, a junior in print journalism, was born on Oct. 14, 1983, the same day of the leftist coup in Grenada led by Vice-Premier Bernard Coard. Coincidently James’ favorite barkeep, Claude, is Grenadian. James has lived his entire life in Missoula, but has traveled to Spain, Germany, Morocco and Oklahoma.
He has a brother, father and mother. When he was young his mother told him he could be whatever he wanted, “within reason.” When young James asked what she meant by “within reason,” his mother replied: “You sure ask a lot of questions for a garbage man.”
But James kept asking questions and his inquisitive nature eventually led him to pursue a degree in journalism. He is a news reporter for the Montana Kaimin and occasional contributor to punknews.org. James’ favorite beer is Pabst Blue Ribbon and his favorite karaoke song is “Dancing Queen” by ABBA.
