I started out my freshman year of college with the intent of having an interior design degree when I was done. One can see how well I followed through on that, as now I find myself a senior, 22, in print journalism at The University of Montana.
It’s not that interior design was boring, but rather I wanted to do something with more meaning than just to make a room look pretty. Another large, tugging factor was that my boyfriend attended UM, and I wanted to be closer to where he was.
I chose journalism because, basically, I like to write. And, call me crazy, but I enjoy grammar and punctuation, which has led to an interest in copy editing. I worked the past two semesters as a copy editor at the Montana Kaimin. I also worked as an intern at Sublime Public Relations in Missoula for seven months.
Journalism is not my only major. I am also majoring in business with an option in marketing. Therefore, I hope to combine my journalism and marketing degrees and work in advertising or public relations after graduation.
I still enjoy the craft of designing a room, and my boyfriend and I are still together.
