Journalism professor Dennis Swibold read from his recently published book on Feb. 3 at the UC Bookstore on campus.
"Copper Chorus: Mining, Politics, and the Montana Press, 1889 - 1959" was published in September. Since then, Swibold has done 10 reading/signing events around the state, with more planned through the summer.
The book examines the Anaconda Copper Mining Co.’s control of most of the state’s larger newspapers and the effects of that control on what those papers printed
On April 24, Swibold will read from the book at the noon meeting of the Kiwanis Club at the Florence Hotel, Missoula.
He also plans presentations
for the state Librarians Association in April, for the Butte Irish
Festival in August, and for the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman next
fall. Dates have not been set for those events. Also in the works are readings at Butte's W.A. Clark Mansion and the Carbon County (Red Lodge)
Historical Society.
