After graduating from Missoula’s Big Sky High School in 2003, I went to San Diego to attend San Diego State as a journalism major.
I lived with my brother in an apartment in Mission Valley, ate a lot of Mexican food, learned how to surf and, of all things, became homesick. I moved back to Missoula the next year and began going to the University of Montana School of Journalism in the fall.
I fell in love with journalism in high school when I began reading everything. OK, not everything, but when you want to write for women’s magazines, I think anything in the vicinity of Seventeen, Cosmo, People, Marie Claire or InStyle counts as everything. I even leafed through my mom’s Family Circle and Good Housekeeping (Who am I kidding? I still do.)
I still read everything and will be graduating from the J-School in May. This semester, I am working as a copy-editing intern at the Missoulian.
When I am not at school or work, I like spending time with my friends and family, shopping and watching Grey’s Anatomy and re-runs of Friends. I still love to surf but don’t get to see the ocean as much as I used to.
After graduating, I hope to move to New York in pursuit of my dream magazine career, go to grad school or maybe eventually get a minor in Spanish.
I’m not sure which one’s first yet. For now, just graduation is enough.
