One class began my gradual decline into the harsh reality of being a news junkie. The class, Islamic Civilization with Professor Mehrdad Kia, changed my preconceived notions on current world news. Followed by such classes as Current Events and Arabic 101, I have come to realize that there are other news sources beyond the status quo.

A procrastinator by nature, I have found journalism a perfect fit. Now a senior in print journalism, I began school at UM as a political science major. After one semester in that program I switched to physics/astronomy to pursue one of my favorite hobbies —  stargazing. I soon realized, however, that “those people” possess knowledge and a love for math that my feeble mind simply cannot comprehend.

Destined to attain the ambiguous liberal arts degree, I finally found a major in which I could hone my skills of procrastination and where reading the newspaper every day counts as “homework.”

I was born in Oxford, England, to military parents, but raised entirely in the Flathead Valley in Montana. Besides astronomy, my other interests include camping, hiking and road trips whenever possible. In my spare time I am also an avid video gamer (viva la Xbox 360).

After graduating in May ’06, I plan to gain some practical real world experience in the newspaper business and then, eventually, attend grad school overseas.
