Karen Plant is a senior in print journalism at the University of Montana — many years after her first attempt to obtain a college degree.
Plant and her husband, Larry, have been married 22 years. The couple met in 1984 while studying architecture at Montana State University.
Plant put college on hold while her husband established himself as a physical therapist and until the youngest of their three sons reached third grade.
Before taking the UM plunge, Plant considered career choices in medical transcribing, drafting and even economics.
Two years ago, she finally decided to go with her heart and entered the field of journalism.
“I knew I should go with my heart; it has done me well thus far,” she said.
Now that Plant has completed a summer internship as a reporter for the Belgrade News, she is even more convinced she made the right choice. She looks forward to a long career in journalism — only three semesters away.
