Seeking Justice
Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Maurice Possley helps launch the Montana Innocence Project, the Montana component of a nationwide effort to overturn wrongful convictions. Two UM J-School professors sit on the board of the project, which is directed by a J-School alum.

On the Screen
J-School professors Clem Work and Gita Saedi bring Work’s book, Darkest Before Dawn, to documentary film form. The book prompted pardons for 78 Montanans convicted under the 1918 Sedition Act.

Staff, students, and alumni gathered in the second floor lobby of Don Anderson Hall Sept. 19th to honor Judith Blakely Morgan. Morgan is one of three recipients of the University of Montana’s 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award. A member of the School of Journalism’s class of 1960, Morgan, best known for her award-winning travel columns, enjoyed a successful career during which she was syndicated in several hundred newspapers for 30 years. Morgan’s writing also appeared in National Geographic, Travel & Leisure, Sports Illustrated and other national magazines. She co-authored a biography of Dr. Seuss called Dr. Seuss & Mr. Geisel, which was named a New York Times Notable Book in 1995. “One of the loveliest things about journalism is it’s so much more than a profession,” said Morgan. “It’s a way of life.”
