toy car sits on Angel Retamar's bedside table alongside
his prescription pills. After Retamar contracted polio
in 1956, his parents wouldn't let him play outside, so
he stayed inside and played with toy cars. |

in the Vintage Vase Florist Shop. Haddock and Nick Rea opened
the floral shop five months ago in the Grand Central District.
The two are business partners as well as life partners. |
Lisa Hornstein and Kate Medley, photo students who graduated
in May, spent six weeks this summer as visual fellows at Points
South,
a summer fellowship for college graduates at the Poynter Institute
in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Hornstein
and Medley, who were among 32 graduates selected from schools
around the
country, worked with writing fellows to produce stories
and photographs of
life
in St. Petersburg.
Medley photographed
the work at a local crematorium, garage sales and a toy car
collection. Click here to
see more of her work.
One of the
highlights of Hornstein's time at Poynter was getting to photograph
Democratic
presidential candidate John Kerry and
his running mate John Edwards. She also took pictures
of the
local
gay
pride
celebration, a notary public with her own wedding chapel and
a family that runs a local restaurant. Clickhere to
see more of Hornstein's work.
