Carol Van Valkenburg named interim dean

Provost Robert Kindrick has announced that Carol Van Valkenburg will assume the duties of interim dean for the 1998-99 academic year.

Carol has been a journalism professor at UM since 1982. She received her B.A. in journalism from UM in 1972 and a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies, with a concentration in history and political science, in 1988. She has worked at the Missoulian as a reporter, editorial writer and copy editor, and at the Philadelphia Inquirer as a copy editor on the features desk and the foreign/national copy desks.

Sherry Devlin

Sherry Devlin, who covers the environment and outdoors, will teach a section of Reporting. Sherry has helped the school by teaching special sections of the class for each of the last three years.

A graduate of the University of Colorado, she has also taught courses at Washington State University.

 

Greg Lakes

Greg Lakes reported from the Flathead Valley for a year and the Bitterroot Valley for 12 years before taking a job as assistant news editor and assistant city editor for the Missoulian in 1994. He will teach the Editing 1 course.

Greg earned his B.A. in journalism in 1992 from UM. He also has a B.S. in wildlife biology, awarded in 1981.

Greg is teaching a class formerly assigned to Carol Van Valkenburg, who has become interim dean of the school.

Ginny Merriam

Ginny Merriam covers health and social issues for the Missoulian.

Ginny received her B.A. in journalism from UM in 1986 and spent three years as a freelance writer before accepting a full-time job at the Missoulian in 1989.

Ginny is teaching a class formerly assigned to Carol Van Valkenburg, who has become interim dean of the school.
