Standard Operating Procedure

Preparing Quatricide PV Solution for Cleaning Floors in Animal Rooms and Hallways

Updated: October 3, 2012

I. Purpose

The purpose of this standard operating procedure is to describethe process for mixing Quatricide PV mop solution for cleaning floors in animal rooms and hallways.

II. Responsibility
It is the responsibility of all LAR staff to know the proper procedure for mixing Quatricide PV mopping solution and for correctly applying it to animal room floors and hallways.

III. Procedure for Mixing

  1. Mop buckets are marked at the 2 gallon (8 liter) level.  Fill mop buckets daily with 2 gallons of fresh water from sink area.
  2. Wear proper protective gear (disposable gloves, lab coat, protective eyewear), add 1/2 ounce of Quatricide PV per 2 gallons of water (marked measuring containers are located in each animal housing room).
  3. Mop rooms and hallways daily (except weekends) and as needed.  Wring out all excess water from mop before applying to floor surface.  Allow floor to air dry.  Excess solution should never be left on floor surfaces because it damages the floor finish.
  4. At beginning of each work day, discard mop solution into sink and mix fresh daily.

III. Safety and MSDS

  1. Quatricide PV is a one step neutral disinfectant that is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, viruses, and fungi.  It inhibits the growth of mold and mildew and their odors when used as directed.
  2. Do not mix with oxidizers, anionic soaps or detergents.
  3. Eye irritant.  Avoid eye and skin contact.  Follow first aid directions immediately upon contact (see below).
  4. MSDS sheets and precautionary statements are located in MSDS binders in all animal facilities.

III. First Aid

  1. If splashed on skin or clothing, take off affected clothing; rinse skin immediately with water for 15-20 minutes.
  2. If splashed in eyes, hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water at eye wash station or sink for 15-20 minutes.  Remove contact lenses.  Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
  3. Dispose of all Quatricide PV containers into trash and do not reuse for other products or solution.
