The joint program in law and business administration allows students to take advantage of the real world need for a combination of business and law and to complete their J.D. and M.B.A. in a shorter period of time than would be required if the degrees were taken consecutively without the joint program. The first year of study is as a full-time student in the School of Law. During the second and third years, students complete both law and business courses.
Students who wish to participate in the joint program must satisfy the admission requirements for both the School of Business Administration M.B.A. Program and the Law School J.D. Program. Application to the Law program requires taking the LSAT and the GMAT is required by the M.B.A. program. A student may request enrollment in the joint program at any time; however, these programs are simultaneous and students will benefit from enrolling early in each program.

If you wish to pursue a joint degree program, please notify the
Associate Dean of the School of Law as soon as you decide
to do so, but in no case later than the beginning of
your second year of law school.
Please be aware that you are not permitted to take any non-law
credits in addition to the 6 non-law (9 in the joint
J.D./M.B.A. program) credits you take as part of the
joint degree program.
For the non-law credits you wish to take as part of any of the
joint degree programs, you must specify these courses
with the Academic Standards Committee before you take the courses. No retroactive selection is permitted.
Students will pay School of Law super tuition for the 81 credits
taken for the law degree, as well as the School of Business
Administration's On-Campus super tuition for the 23 credits
taken for the M.B.A. degree.
How the J.D./M.B.A. Credit is Earned
The J.D./M.B.A. degree shall be earned in three years, using
the following sequence:
- The first year as a full-time student in the School of Law. No
M.B.A. classes may be taken during this first academic
year.
- The second and third years devoted to both law and business
courses.
- A specific proposed curriculum is detailed on the School of
Law's web site under "Joint Degree Programs," which
is under "Academic Program."
The J.D./M.B.A. credits are earned in the following way:
- The School of Law shall accept toward its degree nine credits
earned in the M.B.A. program.
- The M.B.A. program shall accept toward its M.B.A. degree
nine credits earned in the School of Law.
- Law students must notify the School of Law's Academic Standards
Committee of which M.B.A. courses they plan to take
for law credit the semester before they take the course(s).
