ADVANCED INDIAN NATURAL RESOURCES LAW

| This two-credit survey course examines the law governing the development and protection of natural and environmental resources owned or administered by American Indian governments and their individual members. Students will learn the nature and scope of the federal, tribal, and state authority to regulate or otherwise affect the development of the following natural or environmental resources within Indian Country: (a) Indian owned lands including aboriginal, executive order, statutory and treaty established tribally and individually owned lands; (b) American Indian land use and environmental regulatory rights within Indian Country; (c) American Indian owned natural resources including coal, oil and gas, water, timber and related resources; (d) federal, tribal state taxation authority over American Indian owned natural resources; and (e) American Indian owned wildlife and fishery resources. |
