Professor Andrew King-Ries

By examining how a real criminal case goes through the system, students explore the general principles of substantive law, such as "the criminal act," "criminal intent," and constitutional limitations upon police practices of search and seizure, interrogation, and identification. Students draft a charging instrument, an application for a search warrant, and a search warrant itself. Students complete a fieldwork requirement by visiting state correctional institutions, observing a criminal appellate argument, or observing a criminal trial.
