This course provides a survey of United States immigration law, and covers several topics. It examines the meaning and significance of United States citizenship; the constitutional and statutory framework of US immigration laws; the means for noncitizens to immigrate permanently or temporarily to the United States; grounds for inadmissibility to and removal from the United States; the availability of waivers of inadmissibility and relief from removal; detention of noncitizens; and refugee and asylum issues. As time permits, issues related to national security and public benefits are discussed.
