Students
will explore the theoretical literature and practical
aspects of "self-care" - practices students
can use to begin to nurture their own well-being while
living productive and meaningful lives as law students
and lawyers. Ever-increasing empirical evidence documents
the decline in health and well-being of lawyers and
its interference with how well lawyers can serve society
and clients. Substantial work has been done on what
individual lawyers and firms can do to develop and
sustain productive and satisfying law practices or
other legal work. Class sessions will include discussions,
meditation, reflective writing, guest speakers (both
lawyers and self-care professionals), and practical
exercises.
