Transfer Applicants must submit all application materials through LSAC's Credential Assembly Service (CAS) and follow the Service’s instructions and procedures to ensure their applications are complete.

Application and Fee - Applicants must submit an electronic application and a $60 application fee.

Personal Statements and Resumé - Applicants must attach to their electronic applications a resumé and two personal statements of no more than 800 words each.

a. The first statement should describe the applicant’s interest in the study and practice of law and in the University of Montana School of Law.

b. The second statement should describe an activity, event, or accomplishment and its relationship to the development of one or more of the applicant’s personal qualities (for example, writing and speaking skills, care and concern for others, initiative and sustained effort, commitment to political or moral principles).

Academic Reference Letter - Applicants must submit one academic reference letter from a law school faculty member;

Official CAS Report - Applicants must submit an official CAS report;

Letter of Good Standing - Applicants must submit a letter of good standing from the dean of the law school previously attended stating the applicant is in good standing and eligible to continue at that institution;

Official Transcript - Applicants must submit an official transcript of first-year law school courses verifying the average in all law studies for which the student has registered and received a grade is equivalent to that required for graduation from the institution attended.

Transfer students must complete at least 60 credit hours of law study in residence to earn a University of Montana law degree.

A ceiling of 84 positions is maintained for the second-year class. Within this limitation, the best qualified applicants for admission will be accepted, based upon law school academic performance, including an evaluation of the quality of the school attended. Consideration will also be given to the applicant's cumulative undergraduate grade point average, and LSAT score.
