Professor Betsy Griffing

Professor Griffing teaches Property and Montana Constitutional Law. She brings almost 24 years of legal practice to her teaching. Her practice focused upon government and constitutional issues, having served as a supervising attorney in the Appellate Bureau in the Montana Attorney General's office for over eight years. She was also chief counsel for the Montana State Auditor's office, coordinating and overseeing the prosecution and investigation of insurance and securities in Montana. Most recently, in private practice, she has worked in commercial and property law, representing financial institutions, local governments, and quasi-government entities.

Professor Griffing has served on numerous panels and given CLE presentations with respect to issues of appelate advocacy and Montana Constitutional law. She enjoys the challenges of teaching, especially the active dialogue among law students. She is currently working on an article on corporate constitutional rights.

An honors graduate of Smith College in 1977 and The University of Montana School of Law in 1981, Professor Griffing clerked for the Montana Supreme Court for two years and then The Honorable Gordon Bennett.
