Disability Services

The IT Department maintains one computer station in the northeast corner of the Library reading room for patrons with disabilities. For assistance with this computer inquire at the library circulation desk.* This computer is equipped with:

  • JAWS:Screen Reading Software (for the visually impaired) JAWS for Windows is a powerful accessibility solution that reads information on your screen using synthesized speech. JAWS provides many useful commands that make it easier to use programs, edit documents, and read Web pages. With a refreshable braille display, JAWS can also provide braille output in addition to, or instead of, speech. An array of versatile features and customizable options lets you tailor JAWS for your individual needs and preferences.
  • OpenBookT allows you to convert printed documents or graphic based text into an electronic text format using accurate optical character recognition and quality speech. OpenBook's many powerful low vision tools allow you to customize how the document appears on your screen, while other features provide portability.
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 Legal speech recognition software is a powerful productivity tool that enables legal professionals to work faster and significantly reduce their reliance on support staff and outside transcription services.
  • Scanner
  • Flat Pannel Monitor
  • Headphones/Microphone

*The Library staff has very limited experience with the software on this computer but will provide whatever assistance they can.
