The University of Montana provides GrizMail email accounts for all students, faculty and staff that must be used for all University communications. Although the email system is campus-wide and administered through the UM Computing and Information Technology Department, the law school IT Department can assist with:

• Microsoft Outlook set-up for POP access to your university email account.

• Some Password and alias problems.

GrizMail Hints

Before you login to GrizMail for the first time, you should set a password and security question through the UM Portal.

Read your GrizMail every day. All official UM email communications will be sent to your Grizmail account. This includes Law School announcements, Financial Aid & Registration notices, and any communications from faculty.

Forward your GrizMail to a private email account. UM email accounts allow for only about 100 MB of messages and attachments while free accounts such as Gmail offer about 20 times that amount of space. Forwarding your email passes your email through your Grizmail account so that you can read and maintain it in your private email account. Gmail is a good private email account option because it allows you to configure your account so that it can be read via a “popmail” client such as Microsoft Outlook at no additional charge.

What is my GrizMail address?

You have two Grizmail addresses. Email sent to eiter these addresses will be delivered to your GrizMail inbox, but the UMontana alias is considered your "official" email address.

• Literal Email Address: NetID@grizmail.umt.edu (e.g. sg167034@grizmail.umt.edu)
• UMontana Alias: firstname.lastname@umontana.edu. This is the email address you should give to people.

Can I change my Umontana email address?

Your alias can be changed if your name changes, but you cannot do it yourself. If you change your name, see James Cramer.

How do I login to Grizmail?

1. Go to http://grizmail.umt.edu
2. Click on Login.
3. Enter your NetID in the Username box in the format missoula\sg167034e.
4. Enter the password you set in the UM Portal.
