All of the classrooms and seminar rooms in the law school contain built-in AV equipment (click on the Classroom Equipment link above or in the menu at the right for a list of available AV resources). The IT Department will train faculty to use the equipment themselves or set-up equipment before classes or events (with advance notice). Contact James Cramer or Ed Wrzesien to schedule a training appointment or to request classroom set-up.
Video Editing
Many faculty members use video clips or other media in class. The IT Department is available to assist with editing video or creating video-clips for classroom instruction.
Some faculty also use video projects as a student assessment tool. Although the IT Department cannot provide editing services to video projects students turn in, they can train students to use the editing equipment.
Contact Ed Wrzesien.
PowerPoint Presentations
All faculty have access to PowerPoint through Microsoft Office on their individual computers. The IT Department will help you transfer your PowerPoint file to a laptop and assist with classroom set-up. They may also be ablt to provide limited assistance with creation of your presentation.
Law School Exams
The law school gives students the option of using laptops to write their essay exams using ExamSoft software (also used by the Montana Bar for the bar exam). Virtually all law students take advantage of this opportunity. James Cramer and Ed Wrzesien have both worked extensively with ExamSoft in administering exams within the law school as well as the Texas and Montana bar exams. For law school exams, they:
-
assist students with downloading software
-
provide training to students
-
assist with administering exams and troubleshooting during exams
-
assist with downloading and printing exams so faculty have printed exams within hours.
In addition, James Cramer can create test-sheets for and grade objective multiple-choice exams in-house. He can also provide a statistical, question-by-question analysis of objective exams.
Laptop Check-Out
The IT Department has a few laptops available for faculty to check-out when they are traveling to meetings, CLEs, etc. Contact James Cramer or Ed Wrzesien to check-out a laptop.
Video- and Web-Conferencing
The law school owns video-conferencing equipment and works with the State Bar of Montana and the Montana judiciary to provide video-conferencing to sites around Montana for meetings, classes, CLEs and court proceedings.
During Fall 2007, the IT Department, in conjunction with the Office of Public Instruction, will also begin offering web-conferencing using Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional. This service will initially be used by the Indian Law Clinic to provide training to tribal courts and governments across Montana, but will be available for other uses. Contact James Cramer.
Special Events
The law school hosts many speakers, CLEs, workshops and other special events organized by students and faculty. The IT Department is happy to assist with the AV needs for these events with advance notice. You can request AV assistance when you schedule a room by scheduling an appointment with Ed Wrzesien and filling out the Room Request form at least two weeks before the event.
Meeting Room Manager is a web-based room scheduling software that allows law school faculty, staff, and student organizations to reserve rooms within the law school for meetings and other special events and to verify whether rooms are available before they plan meetings. Contact Diane Bailey or Stacey Gordon for assistance with reserving rooms.
