Testimonials

Here are some things current law students and staff have had to say about the Information Technology services available:

Katie Harper

"The entire staff has been awesome in the law student's time of need. Before an exam, Mike has fixed three things with my computer in 50 seconds flat. Kyle has patiently erased all Spyware and Adware from my desktop, and James is always providing me with new ways to help law students take better notes. The staff is competent, quick and friendly and have made law school a lot easier for all of us."

Reed Mandelko

"I have received help from the Law School IT Department on numerous occasions. I would describe them as top-notch. They keep my computer running smoothly and they fix bugs. These people are true professionals: very knowledgeable and friendly."

Thorin Geist

"The UM Law IT Staff is incredibly approachable. From day one of intro week and on through the semester, if you have a problem, 99% of the time their door is open. More importantly, they are patient with stressed-out law students."

Shaun Xu

"The IT Department has helped me with video and pretrial presentations. IT has aided my studies at the UM Law School by providing such services as building wide universal wireless internet access, free web resource access, and free servicing of recommended laptops."

Sandy Pomery

"First of all, the adjustment for a first year law student is enormous in every aspect not the least of which is the purchase of a new laptop to comply with the technological advances of the program delivery. For me, being able to walk in to Mr. Cramer's (James') office unannounced before classes started in August and having him not only load all the requisite programs but take the time to show me how to use them and the various support systems was a huge relief. Of course, that wasn't the last time I needed his services. I had a total Spyware immobilization which James took two days to clear up, store all my notes and files and reload my entire system. He has helped me with printing problems, Blackboard acquisition problems, resetting my password, not once but twice, all with the patience of Job and the calm reassurance of a computer saint. He has made my life much less stressful by not only being available to help during the day but also has provided all of us with an after hours e-mail address, clearly above and beyond the scope of his duties."

Burt Hurwitz

2nd Year, SBA, ABA Representative, RAL co-founder, Trial Team Counsel

"The IT Department at the University of Montana School of Law is second to none. Their work ensures that professors and students at this law school communicate using cutting edge technology. Furthermore, they take the time to help every student with their individual laptop problems. When most people are on hold to talk to someone in India, U of M Law students can simply stop by the IT office and one of them will have us back to studying in no time."

Craig Wahl

"The technology adopted by the University of Montana Law School not only allows me to use my time more productively but also allows me to get familiar with the technology I will be using as a lawyer. Technology good. Sticks and fire bad."

Elaine Gagliardi

Professor of Law

"The IT Department consistently looks for ways to improve our school program. Everything now seems to happen automatically, including anti virus updates, and computer back up. James and Mike are only a cell phone call away at all times, and any problems are fixed immediately. As teachers, we have available cutting edge technology. This semester I will use our new technology to conduct an in class drafting workshop. I can also use the computer in place of the white board, and save diagrams drawn during class on our blackboard.

Stacey Gordon

Associate Librarian, Public Services
Class of 2000

"The IT Department has accomplished an amazing amount of change in a very short time. They have transformed the level of technology available to our students, staff and faculty. They are extremely knowledgeable and innovative and have fostered an excitement in the Law School about ways we can use the new technologies for collaboration, teaching, and learning."

Bob Peck

Library Technician, Jameson Law Library

"As a member of the law library staff, I have relied on and worked with the IT staff not only on individual workstation issues but also on large projects involving digital documents and electronic information access that have fundamentally changed the way information is used at the law school. This has been a great benefit to out law students in the availability and ease of use of coursework and research material. With a lot of help and effort from the IT Department, the library, in a very short time, has been able to implement cutting-edge technologies that are not yet available at many much larger schools. The IT staff has always been prompt and helpful with any question or problem from the simplest "my email doesn't work!" type of question to brainstorming on large-scale document delivery and information networking systems. I know they have also been helpful with every imaginable problem that could come up with student laptops and go out of their way to provide fast and efficient solutions with genuine concern for the individual. In other words, they do a simply AMAZING job!"

Thanks for your help with my computer, as I'm sure it wasn't the funnest (I know that's not a word) thing to deal with. It works great and I can now go on with my life. Thanks for the continuing excellent support that you provide us -it's not the easiest thing to deal with 250 sleep-deprived, caffeine addicted, obsessive, ego maniacs.
You guys continue to go above and beyond for us, and you should know that it is appreciated. Thanks again and back to a normal pace of life I go (as now I won't sit at home, in silence, alone, with no visual distraction - now I can listen to music while sitting at home, alone...).
