Virus Information

September 25
James, Ed and Emmanuel are working overtime trying to fix the damage caused by the virus that hit the Law School and the campus last week. They are updating the virus protection and running virus scans on each computer that has been infected, including individual laptops. This is taking a great deal of time. However, you can remove the viruses from your laptop yourself by following these steps (there are a lot of steps, but it is not difficult).

Even if you don't think your computer has been infected, you should still take the following steps to make sure you remain connected to the new virus server and to insure that you do not have any viruses. Some computers have been infected though the damage was not immediately evident.

PLEASE NOTE: If you cannot print or get to your server space, the following steps will not solve your virus issues. Your computer has suffered a network disruption. You will not be able to fix this problem yourself and must go see James or Ed.

1. Uninstall both Symantec AntiVirus Protection and Live Update.
  1. Click on Start (Fig. 1).
  2. Open the Control Panel.
  3. Open Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Click on Symantec AntiVirus to highlight.
  5. Click Change or Remove Programs, then on Remove (Fig. 2).
  6. Click on Yes. Do not restart your computer yet.
  7. Uninstall Live Update the same way.
  8. After you have uninstalled both programs, click on Yes to restart your computer.
