Poster by Hillary WandlerLegal Writing Fellow Hillary Wandler Presents Poster at AALS Conference

Posted February 3, 2010

Legal Writing Fellow Hillary Wandler's poster presentation entitled "Culturally-Appropriate Assessment of PTSD in Native American Veterans" was selected for display by the Association of American Law Schools Section on Disability Law at the AALS Annual Meeting in New Orleans in January.

Since 2005, the AALS Annual Meeting has featured a Poster Project in which interested individuals may submit a poster showcasing empirical research. Posters are intended to provide authors an opportunity to present in clear and succinct fashion the thesis and conclusion of their research or to describe teaching innovations outside formal program presentations.

Wandler's research is exploring the extent to which the United States Department of Veterans Affairs is implementing culturally-appropriate clinical assessment procedures to assess the severity of post-traumatic stress disorder in Native American Veterans for purposes of service-connected disability compensation. Without system-wide implementation of culturally-appropriate assessment procedures, Native American Veterans are likely receiving inaccurate disability ratings, and thus inappropriate disability compensation.
