This training manual has been created to assist professionals in addressing the psychosocial impacts of a slow motion technological disaster. A new approach was needed because traditional disaster response models do not address the unique psychosocial impacts of this particular type of disaster.
Attention: The Montana Asbestos Screening and Surveillance Activity (MASSA) is no longer available to Lincoln County residents. The service was discontinued in September 2008 due to a lack of funding. Patients can still receive screenings provided through the Libby Asbesto Medical Plan ( LAMP). Screenings are available for Libby residents who lived or worked in town for six months prior to 2000. According to the Western News, the Center for Asbestos Deasease (CARD) and St. John’s Lutheran Hospital accept LAMP’s payment as full coverage for all parts of the asbestos health screening. That coverage includes a pulmonary function test and doctor consultation at CARD and X-ray and computerized tomography (CT) services at St. John’s.
